Insurance for Your Small Business

Commercial Auto and Truck Insurance

In addition to the standard insurance components, you may face other automobile insurance considerations as a business owner. For example, never assume you have coverage for rented vehicles. If you get a commercial auto or business package policy, it can provide for hired autos, which includes rentals, when used for business purposes only. When renting, you may need to purchase the insurance offered by the rental agency, unless you know you are covered by your policy or perhaps by use of certain credit cards that include this insurance as a benefit. For long-term rentals (over six months), you may have to add the vehicle to your policy.

In addition, Garage Keeper's Liability coverage may be needed if you have a garage operation (e.g., repair shop, etc.). It covers bodily injury and property damage, not faulty work. In addition, Garage Keeper's Liability coverage covers damage to customers' vehicles if you have possession of such vehicles.

Other Major Types of Insurance Coverages for Business

There are many different forms of insurance available to the business owner and changes in the marketplace are ongoing. Your agent will let you know of any other forms that you should consider. Which coverages you will need will depend on the type of business you own.
